El "Book Club: American Short Stories" tiene un enfoque comunicativo y participativo que fomenta la interacción entre los asistentes a través de preguntas guiadas, debate abierto y actividades prácticas.
Theme: “Some Kind of Connection: Stories of Friendship”
To celebrate Friend’s Day in USA, this month’s book club will explore the many ways people form and navigate friendships—from the deeply loyal to the quietly complicated.
Through a selection of American short stories, we’ll read about characters who lean on each other, grow apart, reconnect, or surprise themselves with unexpected bonds.
These literary snapshots will invite us to reflect on what it really means to be a friend—and how those connections shape who we are.
Possible Discussion Themes:
- The forms friendship can take: childhood, adult, chosen family, cross-generational
- Trust, betrayal, forgiveness, and change over time
- Emotional closeness vs. distance in friendships
- Friendship overlapping with love, rivalry, or obligation
- When and why we let people in—or out—of our lives
Language & Learning Focus:
- Talking about personal values and emotional experiences
- Expressing opinions about relationships and character decisions
- Exploring dialogue, tone, and cultural attitudes toward friendship
- Practicing vocabulary for emotions, trust, and connection
Authors we'll be working with
- Raymond Carver
- Toni Morrison
- Margaret Atwood
- John Cheever
